Ruffle is the main hero bringing Flash back to life.
What Are We?
It started with a friend’s idea in 2022: bring AdventureQuest Worlds to mobile. That thought brought back a flood of memories from childhood shared through Flash games: Age of War, Epic War 5, Strike Force Heroes, Earth Taken, Epic Battle Fantasy, the Chinese online game Gunny, and of course AQW. A world of games that shaped who we were.

Then came the hard truth that I had found at that time: Adobe had ended Flash support. The news hit us with sadness.

We searched for a way to keep those games alive on mobile and stumbled upon Ruffle. Back then many games still did not work, but it was open source, and a community was pushing it forward. That gave us hope.
By the end of 2022, development started. In March 2023, the first release went live. The UI was honestly terrible, but installs started coming in, and some early users became deeply special to us. They reached out and helped improve the app from the very beginning.
As months passed, Ruffle grew stronger, game compatibility expanded, and so did our app. We added more games, tweaked controls, and tried to keep up. But our code was messy from the start. We are average programmers doing our best, and bugs crawled everywhere: lag, crashes, and complaints. We only wanted people to enjoy Flash games one more time, but we delivered something too often laggy and unfinished.
The weight of it all nearly crushed us. By late 2024, we were ready to give up.
Then, right at the beginning of 2025, a co-worker and dear friend pulled us back up.
He joined the project, poured in his effort, and the app began to improve in ways we could not manage alone. So we kept going, even when our own contributions became rarer. We poured what little experience and resources we had into it, and against the odds, we made real progress.
But the numbers did not follow. Users kept drifting away, no matter how much we improved. Server costs are around $100 a month, while revenue is around $1 or $2 a day. It is simple math. This cannot continue.
We are not heroes. We are more like farmers who dared to pick up a sword. Ruffle’s team are the legendary ones. We are nobodies who just wanted to do something good. We fought something we never imagined we could, and while we do not know if we can defeat the dragon, at least we left a mark somewhere in the dirt.

We still dream. We still push. But we cannot keep losing money while receiving blame for things that are not even our fault. We will try everything we can to help this project survive this year, but if it does not, this will be farewell.
What Have We Achieved?
- Proper point-and-click and mouse simulation on mobile.
- External gamepad support and customization.
- On-screen controller customization.
- Faster Ruffle performance on mobile by leveraging WebGL.
Thank You, From The Heart
A special, deepest thank you to every contributor and early supporter. You know who you are, and you are all carried in our hearts. This is the story of an unknown project built by ordinary people who wanted to bring beloved games back to life. No heroic ending, no fame, just a story of trying, and that is enough.
